OUGD601 - Practical - Research - Charities

Now that I have decided that I will be creating my own mental health brand I have looked into current mental health charities branding to see how they present themseleves to the public. I wanted to find out which is the most effective/what can I learn from these logos and over all brands to make my logo for the campaign as effective as possible.

When looking at the logos below, one of the main things that stood out to me was how all of them are using rounded type and icons. This has been done to create a more friendly and approachable tone of voice. A mental Health charity needs to have this sort of style to show that it is open to everyone and that they wont be discriminating.

The use of colour within these logos is very simple, he blues have been used for the majority of mental health charities as these helps to represent being mindful and it was what most people currently assosiate with the mental health. I do like how brand like Time To Change and Young Minds have decided to use different colours I feel that this helps them to standout amiung the other charities, this is imporant as you want the audinece to remember the logo and by having a different colour to others helps this.

Minds use of a scribble to represent mental health is a very good way of showing to the audience what having mental health problems is like. This straighaway helps for the audience to feel more comfotable as they might be able to relate to the image with there own feelings.

The main thing with branding for mental health charity is making it approachable and for all people so the use of colour is very imporant and this is something that I will be considering within my development. As well as this I feel that the rounded corners also helps to make the brand feel more approachable meaning that is somegthing that I should factor into my designs.

OUGD601 - Research - Contacting Experts

I thought it would be vauble to try and speak with someone that knew more about graphic design and design for healthcare. After visiting the exhibtion at The Wellcome Collection I decided that email the curators of the exhibtion to see if they could give me any further insight into the role that graphic design can play when helping to reduce the stigma of mental health.

Sadly they were unable to help me at this time, but they gave me some direction. I did use there advice...when I contacted the communication team at Time To Change I got a similar email back from them as well. They could only point me in the direction of their website which did have lots of useful information on it but it was not the style of information that I was looking for as I did want to get some first hand comments from an experts point of view rather than general information which I could find online.
